Jan Pyk was born in Sweden in 1934. Jan received his art education at “Konstfack Art Academy ” in Stockholm.
His career began when he accepted a position in the field of advertising at a firm in Stockholm Sweden. During this period, Jan illustrated many Swedish children’s books.
In 1963 Jan left Sweden and came to New York City. For a few years he worked in the advertising industry at J. Walter Thompson advertising agency. In 1968, Jan decided to work full time as a children’s book illustrator. After leaving the advertising world, he was commissioned to do children’s illustrations by numerous publishing houses such as: Harper and Row; Houghton Mifflin; Holt,Rinehart and Winston; McGraw Hill; and, Macmillan to name a few. Many of the children’s books illustrated by Jan are still in print in the United States, as well as, other countries.
